The "pontil mark" appears to be part of the mold?
It has a nice color and style. Not a bad job. Wondering who made it.

I know I have been writing a lot about the eagle cornucopia flasks lately,[:D] but this one slipped through the hands of all the great glass collectors who compiled and charted very early most of the historical flasks. This flask did not made it into any of my bottle books published between 1905 and 2000.I did find in the rear of the Mckearin book American Bottles and Flasks and Their Ancestry a picture of the reproduction of the original Columbia/ Eagle flask thought to possibly to have originated in a Kentucky glass works. The eagle side of the bottle looks to be a very good match with this one listed on eBay.It is possible that these did come out into the market right about as the last of Mckearins updating had occured thus it was never charted or accounted for and never made it to thier book. Now we just have to find the other half the cornucopia side.[;)]

I think we have half our man.[8D]When you compare the eBay bottle and this picture of the Columbia Eagle from Mckearins book you can see it is a dead match for the eagle.I would have to say also it is one of the best reproduction bottles I have ever seen. This is the kind of bottle the Clevenger should have been making instead of all thier gawdy off color not period reproductions of flasks.I think at the end of the day it would have been their own design ultimatley making them more collectable.

Thanks for finding this one Matt,

If I had all of the charted Cornucopia flasks and Mckearin charted 20,I might go after this bottle even though it is a modern interpretation of an older flask.
The only area where the mold maker gave up on and rushed the job was the placement of the dots,(they should have been stars!!) surrounding the perimeter of the Eagle. He did an outstanding job in attention to sharp crisp detail on 95 percent of the flask, and then put those dots AHHHH !![:'(](thats like wearing sneakers with a TUX),also the pontil area was done differently as seen and I am not so sure the base wear is on the up and up[;)].

The Eagle side as Mckearin states is somewhat a copy of the GII-1 Eagle flask ,and the other side the Cornucopia is fashioned in its own design as none of the charted Cornucopias even come close to looking like this one.The attention to detail again is excellent. All in all this flask blows away anything the Clevengers ever made in their attempts at historical flasks.I am impressed and this bottle will probably sell for over $300.00s. and quite possibly more.

Should we as gaurdians of the bottle collecting hobby attempt to pose the question in a private message or email to the seller and explain what is going on here and possibly ruin his and the bidders day[X(].The only deceptive part in the sellers description is the 1800s claim of manufacture, or do you just let it go and let two people enjoy the transaction the seller and the eventual buyer.I dont have the heart nore do I feel like getting into a P-i-s-s-i-n-g match with the seller if someone else wants to send him the link to this post.............I think he is gonna do quite well for himself on this one. Here are some pictures.

By the way the Flask has now reached its reserve at $200.00

Thanks Steve, interesting stuff.

I really wasnt attempting to go after the seller. They were obviously a random collectible brick-a-brack seller and didnt know better.
I just liked the style and color of that repro and wondered about it.
