These were also known as ballast bottles because after cargo and various merchandise was unloaded from a merch ship the empty bottles would be loaded into the lowest cargo area of the ship to replace the missing cargo weight and keep the ship upright. Belgian block was another item that frequently came to America as ballast and unloaded to make room for exports leaving America.Any info would be appreciated. Age, value, use ...?

Awesome! Thank you for the info!Frequently English, but not always. There were special stands made for them so they could be served at a table. The stands are really hard to find, and not easily recognized.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the info!Similar to a torpedo bottle, the design assured this bottle would always lie on it’s side. Why? It was so the cork would always stay hydrated and increase shelf life of the closure system. Too bad it’s not embossed, but what a nice color and shape!
