I think Cord may have nailed it, he's a smart man so it's not surprising, even though it's not the typical form which is normally found to be smaller at the base and wider at the top. You can see a few in the ad from and old automotive magazine I'm attaching, I think it may have been mounted similar to the pic I'm attaching....

Best guess yet but I still have doubts, all the ones I've seen get smaller toward the bottom. Here's one I dug, protected by being in a shoe in a pile of slate.

Good point and why the screw top? That and you have to unclamp to change the water or wash it, at least with Jims pictorial. Nice picture manipulation BTW.Anyway, I thought they just lifted out.

I once had two amber ice cream cone shaped salt and pepper shakers...they were about 8 inches long and had ringed metal bases..sorta like springs..they had white tops like ice cream cones that screwed on...came from a ice cream place in my town that existed from the 30's-50's.....of course not saying that is exactly what this is...but puts another thought about it out here.... I LOVE WHATEVER THE HECK IT IS!!JAMIE

Early automobiles frequently catered to those with finer sensibilities, i.e. women of a certain class and culture. What you have here is a flower vase that was mounted on the wall of an early enclosed cab sedan car, circa 1905-1914 (prior to World War One). A little research could narrow the manufacturer down but be aware that in this same time-frame, it was a veritable free-for-all in the manufacture of horseless carriages.
Thanks!! I am a huge car buff too so if it truly is from an old car that makes it all the cooler!
