I may be biased, but one of the most informative and reliable websites on the web for information on bottles in general is the Bureau of Land Management's "Historic Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website" which is at the following link:

It is an sythesis of hundreds of different quality and reliable references (and has a very lengthy "References" page) that covers all aspects of bottle making, dating, typing (what bottle was likely used for), closures, diagnostic features, and a zillion other aspects of the fascinating world of historic bottles.

There is no other site on the web that does what this website does...check it out!
