So far this link provides the best picture I have found of the Perry Creamery WWII bottle. Click on the "Enlargement" option and you will notice there is definitely some embossing around the heel. Unfortunately I cannot make out what it says but I will continue to search for other examples. [ Scroll to "Perry Creamery" ] http://www.milkbottlesforsale.com/page8.html

Looking back at the auction pictures, I was not able to find any mark or anything on the heel. I did find a different Perry war bottle though, and again I couldn't find any manufacturing mark, but I did find the date (43) written above Perry's.

Of additional interest regarding early Applied Color Lettering bottles is this 1930 Owens-Illinois catalog. When I first stumbled onto it a couple of years ago I was skeptical about the date so I contacted the website manager where I found it, whose name is Arjun, and he checked the copyright page and in his reply assured me that the catalog was definitely from 1930. However, even though the 1930 catalog refers to "Applied Color," to my knowledge it was not actually initiated until around 1933 or 1934. When you couple this with various other clues, I believe there is a distinct possibility that the blue acl "Perry Creamery" bottle might very well be a 1934.
Bob you may have to do some searching on Ebay for a few of the bottles pictured in that catalog photo to see if you can find any that may be pre 1934, if they are in a dated 1930 catalog they must have been made at that time unless that's a great artists rendition....

ACL: Another great find! I'm not sure which glass company made the bottle you posted but it would be difficult to convince me that that particular bottle was not made in 1943 ~ * ~ Here's another link (with zoom) but all I can make out is "Registered" and "Quart" ... maybe someone's eyes are better than mine who can possibly see a makers mark ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/WAR-BOTTLE-PERRY-CREAMERY-CO-DIARY-MILK-BOTTLE-TUSCALOOSA-ALABAMA-AL-ALA-/121195712498?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c37d3cff2&nma=true&si=if%252BWKvuO%252Bt058pKpNm2ifEtu6IU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Jim: It's funny I never thought about doing what you suggest, but I will as time allows. Thanks.

Jim/epackage:

I did a fairly extensive search for the brands shown in the 1930 Owens-Illinois catalog but didn't find much - and definitely no pictures of matching bottles. I agree the catalog pictures look like the real deal and not artist renderings, but I call into question a couple of things ...

1. The names are 'catchy' and sound almost generic.
2. The use of multiple colors and images - the "Dresso" bottle is yellow-blue-white with the
image of a man.

Here's what I found ...
