This bottle has 686 and an A on bottom. It’s a three piece mold with the base, middle “outward” section, top, and then an applied finish that has a peculiar edge to it.

There is some, for lack of a better term, gradation, to the bottle, as if the bottom of each mold has caused some whittling. On the inside it is relatively smooth except where the applied top was put over the glass but there’s no sharp edge or anything to obvious. I think the maker must not have had the tip broken off so crudely for it to be the way it is.

This bottle also has a very, very thick base. It’s almost 10 inches tall and the thick portion of the base is easily 1.25-1.5 inches.

Nice bottle! Looks like the Scotch whisky bottles from the UK that I'm familiar with which tend to date to the turn of the 20th century.

The sellers tag stated 1870’s and given how it was constructed I was inclined to believe them. Do you know what glassmaker over there used the A?

I have no idea, but keep in mind that glassmakers in the UK continued using techniques 30 years after they became obsolete in the US. They were using applied lips well into the 20th century.

Next to the last picture is nice in that it clearly shows where the neck was detached from the blowpipe, about halfway in the applied collar.
