had been having a slow april so far in terms of anything interesting but just pulled this bottle out of a small dump near a river today in my hometown . more or less found it by chance . near a busy road and such , had seen some rusted cans and metal and area appeared to be some sort of small dump . noticed a green top of a bottle sticking out from it and pulled this out , to my surpise it had embossing on it . didn't find anything else of interested other than a small blue glass phillips bottle . doubt it was actually sold here , likely brought here by a tourist/cottager who left it there years ago

not really familar with " Breckles Beverages " toronto . isn't any listing for them in any of my bottle books but appear to be related to whippers beverages somehow and the earlier name used by them perhaps ? pretty sure i've never seen this bottle before or anything similar from them . assume it dates from late 30's > 40's

its a 30 oz bottle embossed " GINGER ALE , Breckles Beverages TORONTO " contents 30 oz on back

might eventually try and come up with more on this bottler but so far very little

Great find wow!
The only thing I know about Breckles is that they had the Whipper label to start with and then that label became Whippers Beverage’s around early 1950s. Whipper Billy Watson took over the label to form his own bottling company. Not sure if Breckles then went out of business when Whippers took over the label or what…
Here’s a Breckles Whippers bottles I have. They are hard to find.

i know pretty crazy find , does seem Breckles Beverages operated before whippers so my bottle pretty much has to be 40's era ? but definitly before they changed names although not sure how long they operated for or what year they started to bottle in Toronto

i'd assume there is some bottle collectors from Toronto who know more about it , i don't specialise in toronto bottles just find some in this area and so familiar with alot of them

will try and get some better pictures they 2 new ones not as clear as they appeared on my computer

here are some pictures on a different angle view that show it with window light as a background , should be a bit clearer

also went back to the spot where i found it earlier this week , didn't find anything else , few parts of broken bottles which seemed to be liquor or screwtop bottles from 30's or 40's , so this must date from that period too

noticed the foundations of an old bridge beside the modern bridge so this road has been in this location for some time , not sure how old a stone foundation bridge be but have do pre date the 30's , never been swimming in this river before , water levels high rate now cause of spring snow melt so not sure how high it be my summer in this spot

I have a 7 ounce Breckles label green bottle. I also had a clear bottle too. I was wondering which bottle was older.

There's a good chance that they're from the same era if the labeling is the same. The colour of the bottle tended to depend on the flavour of the contents. Drinks like cola or root beer would have clear bottles and ginger ale or lemon-lime would have green bottles.
