Front embossed "BROOKFIELD." Back embossed "NEW YORK" which slid upward to make it 'double-stamped.'
As my collection is dominantly medium to intense aqua, I was happy to add this insulator for $2.50 to off-set that. Not sure what to call it-- definitely isn't aqua, but I would struggle to say it's really green. More like a sprucey emerald. My research failed to tell me what I wanted to know: When was this made?

You must admit: It has nice color.
It also has a large stone in it.

Robert, in order to determine what avid insulator collectors would name that color it should be seen in natural sunlight by several experienced collectors. Then the FIGHT begins! [:D][:D][:D] Seriously, color is debatable at all times but over computer monitors you'll never get a true answer, just guesses. Sunlight is a key factor but 5000K fluorescent is a good second. Take a picture in direct sunlight but not directly behind the piece. Might clean it good first, get all the soot off of it. The "double-stamp" is what the insulator hobby calls "Ghost Embossing" and that is my personal current specialty with insulators. Your piece, I would call OUTSTANDING in quality. Anytime you can read an entire word it is good, both or multiple words is GREAT. Hang onto it even though there are only a few of us that REALLY care about such things. I hope others will give their input, I am also interested in what they have to say. Jim P.S. I've never seen "Ghost Embossing" below the real embossing.

It's clean, and I'll do that tomorrow I suppose.I also might, soon, go back down and take a look at the other insulators. They appeared to be common, modern, or ones I already have, so I didn't give much look. Nice store, but all was overpriced save for the insulator and a railroad lantern.
The "Ghost Embossing" is a common error, I've read, but I love it. Thanks for loving it too.
I intend to make a framework with pegs to hang on my wall for my insulators. Just not much time to get around to that. Lol. The Ghost Embossing is above the real embossing on this piece, but I'm told the sliding of the glass can put embossing anywhere. I'm sure below-the-real exists. Might you find one next insulator you touch that you don't yet own.

Hmmm... I don't recall seeing ghost embossing below the "real" embossing. It's theoretically possible, but I think it's less likely since the mold is positioned dome-down when an insulator is pressed. The glass would tend to pick up the embossing and then gravity does the rest. There's probably an example of ghost embossing lower on the skirt out there somewhere, I just haven't seen it. For dating, this darker greenish Brookfield glass is typical of their plant in Old Bridge, New Jersey, sometime around 1906 or so until Brookfield closed down in 1921.
