Hello! Picked up this odd little guy at a yard sale and having little luck getting any info. Found a similar photo described as cd 193 but with no embossing. The example in the photo is embossed AM TEL & TEL CO very faintly. Thats a zippo lighter next to it for scale. Any thoughts from the experts here? Thanks.

It's a 193. CD stands for Consolidated Design meaning slightly different designs or shapes are grouped together to avoid having 1,000s of different numbers to keep track of. If you simply write or say to someone that you have a 193 they can mentally picture the shape. Jim

I think it's more likely a CD 191. The 193 had a very short production run, while the 191 was produced by many companies over a pretty long period. If you can provide dimensions, it'll help identify it more accurately.

Not so sure how to best measure. 3 11/16" across the base, 2 1/2" tall, 1" thread. I'm assuming its incomplete 191 or 193 as its missing the bottom half? Also assuming low value. Paid next to nothing as it was in a box of tools that will be used. Probably OK to chuck it in with the rest of the insulators hanging around on the back porch? Thanks for the responses! Ray

Based on the size, I'd say it's a 191. A complete Am Tel & Tel Co two-piece transposition (both 191 top and 190 bottom, in good condition) is around 20-30 dollars. Just the top probably wouldn't sell very quickly, and probably for no more than five dollars on a good day. In reality, though, insulators were often salvaged and re-installed on another line, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if someone found a piece like this used alone on a line. Despite that, collectors would really prefer a complete transposition.
