Just before Xmas, no snow on the ground yet and still mild, I was itchy to dig some dirt before we were snowed in for good. Decidede last minute type thing to check the embankments along a lake and on the way check the woods behind a cemetary. Never found anything of any signifigance around any other such places that I tried before other than the standard faded plastic flowers and crosses, and plastic planters and the odd tombstone that somehow made its way down the hillside. Besides perhaps the odd shard left by a thirsty gravedigger. As I make my way along I swing in close along the woods bordering the cemetary and find an embankment with a small stream rushing by and a crude attempt at a rockwall back there. Ever have that feeling that you just knew there nwas a dump there before you actually found it , so I was not surprized when I came across some turn-of -the-century refuse. As dusk started to creep in early it gave me only enough time to turn a few cans.

Wedged underneth was a enamel ware tea or coffee pot in a brown color with the white wash or splatter, that's great because I collect the ones in better shape and this is my first brown one I always find the blue with the white spatter. After I pull that out it exposes the bottom half of what I thought was a stone ginger beer because the top was still in the ground, I pull it out and get a mint stone Carter's Ink!!! What a rush!!!Getting a little dark I make my way back with plans to return and take a few pictures and hopefuuly turn up something good,

Nice, I always check around cemetarys for old jars and depression glass that folks would have put flowers in and the mowers would have chucked in the woods. It's also usually a great non-sunday place to park when you want to stroll around nearby.

I was on the treasure net forum not too long ago and someone's post got "excuse the pun" ....crucified" for doing some treasure hunting on the outskirts of an old cemetary. I think people thought he was actually digging within the cemetary.
Glad to see you found some good stuff and not jumped on about getting close to a cemetary.

Cemeteries are good places to look, though it's an obvious place and they tend to be picked over. There are usually some GREAT jar pieces as you can just imagine the out of date jars that were used to hold flowers at cemeteries 100 years ago. Most of the cemeteries around here have a stream and ravine behind them as they tended to be placed on high areas at the edge of town, and there is almost always a dump there. Most of the bottles have long ago been picked over, but there are usually some really nice tombstones that I assume were replaced and dumped, great cut sandstone tombstone bases, and even some cast iron Victorian flower planters. I'm always afraid to take any of this big stuff, theft of iron planters out of cemeteries was a big deal for a while, though not anymore as there are not any left.
