Champagne Pontils

I've got about 15 of these in different sizes and ages. They all look exactly the same from about 3 feet. These two show distinct pontil marks though. Something to look for on these I suppose. The bigger one was blown in a dip mold and has a free formed neck. The little one has what looks like a solid rod pontil on the nipple thingy. Kinda cool.

Hi Can You Dig It. The methods of holding the champagne bottles is something I have taken quite an interest in. This push up was used mainly to trap residual particles in the processing, as far as I know. It was a problem for the mouth blown bottle makers, I am sure because of the pliability of the glass after the ponte ppontil wa attached. I have two example bottles that show the presence of white lead past having been applied to a shaped push-up ponte rod head. The problem is there just isn't much written about their engineering development.
As you have pointed out there isn't any explenation to that little secondary nub of glass on the cup end of the punte formation in your bottle.
Thanks for bringing this up. Maybe some one out there can add to the explantions and example pictures of the various types. When I get back to Florida I will be working again on my pontil mark blog. RED Matthews
