Not an expert on these bottles but I still have to think this isn't the way it was made, I thought I saw a post about it being ground and polished after the lip had been broken off but I can't find it. I sent the seller an e-mail stating that it was a shame the bottle had been broken and fixed to this condition, he sent me this e-mail before redoing the auction to a "buy it now or best offer" item....What do the experts have to say?????

Dear epackage02,

It hadn't. Not all Chestnut Bottles have whole neck and top. I have to know this.
Thanks

The piece of red glass is new, the so-called "chestnut" (really a glob) is a stupendous period piece with post-manufacture alteration...

I am no expert by any stretch, but as long as personal opinions are allowed here, I will impose upon you my own:

Whether or not it is old or authentic, it just doesn't look nice. I do not like it. Lamp base maybe, but not a bottle of whisky on the table in 1800.. it may have been altered, but don't it show??
