Hello,
New member here. I found a box full of old bottles out in my garage. I'm trying to find something out about this one. It's from Huntsville, Alabama and ROOT 955 is embossed near the bottom. I've read about the Root Glass Co., but can't find anything about why the root 955 would be embossed on a bottle made in Huntsville. What date was it made? It appears early. It's a bummer about the chips, but what are you gonna do? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Welcome aboard.
In 1909 ROOT started putting dates on the heel along with the manufacture/model #. Yours does not have a date. So its pre-1909. In 1905 the manufacture #'s started in the 300's. In 1909 the manufacture #'s were in the 1100's. Your manufacture # is 955 so I'd guess your bottle was probably made in 1907-1908. Congrats on the early Coke bottle. It's looks pretty clean except for the chip.

Hogtown Hunter,
Thanks for the info. Is this valuable bottle, even with the chip? Is there a book that lists the codes or manufacturers marks?

It depends on how rare the bottle is. Im not sure if a Huntsville script is commen or not?The straight side Coca Cola bottles I have are not very rare and are worth between $50-$125.
