Hello all, new to this forum here. This forum popped up in my hours of searching Google, looks like you have a great community here with great expertise. I found this bottle at a rummage sale over the weekend and almost overlooked it until its crudeness caught my eye. Something about it said "buy me". I'd like to know if this is an original Coffin & Hay or if it's a reproduction? From what I've read, if the neck is flanged it's an indication of a reproduction, also if it is indeed genuine then emerald green is a rare color since most are aquamarine in color. Regardless, it'd be interesting to find the manufacturer and date if possible. The bottle has bubbles in the glass, two of the bubbles "surfaced" through the glass (for lack of better terms) during manufacture, creating rough spots in a circular bubble shape. The body also has a few large bubbles which are oblong/elongated. The neck is uneven and flanged, the bottom of the bottle is mostly flat but there is a circular ripple around the pontil which was very difficult to photograph as it's subtle therefore doesn't appear on the photo. The front side has an eagle with crest and olive branches. The obverse features a 16-star flag with the inscription "For our country".

Trashpicker, I might be the first to respond, but maybe not the best authority on this bottle. That being said, I will venture a repro based on the color, lack of a real pontil mark on the bottom and "it just don't look right". Hang around and during the next few days someone will be along with some more help. Scott

Welcome to the forum, If I had to guess it's a repo but then again what do I know. There will be those along with a much larger knowledge base who will tell you for sure.

Sorry to say but it is not an original historical flask.

Hi, I say most definitely a reproduction. The manufacturer of most of those may never be known but usually are from the 1960'-70's range.I've bought a few knowing the real thing would never come my way for a price I could or want to pay. They're just nice looking window bottles when the sun comes through and I'd never put the real thing in a sunlit window. Well, maybe facing the east for an hour or less.

They usually come in clear or aqua, HERE is an aqua Genuine Coffin & Hayes Flask. I am pretty sure it was known as the GII-54 historic flask.

Thank you all for your help and input, I appreciate it greatly! It is a nice looking bottle, something about the embossing not being defined is appealing.
