I believe these are more often called trade tokens, sometimes re-stamped pennies. Some people collect them...not me so I'm unable to comment much more than that. Welcome to the site by the way.

don't know anything specific about that token but for sure a token , likely from the area where you found it , might have to search thru some local history books and see if this guy /business is mentioned in them

Thanks for the replies. I found this as a kid, its been a while, but brought it up in a conversation with a friend.
I'll see if I can find something at the library.
Online I've drawn a blank.

I found your token listed on TokenCatalog.com. It is listed there as being from an unknown location.

I don't think these were used by company stores, at least not most of the time. As far as I know they were something more like a coupon, although I'm not sure how exactly they would have typically been used. There are far more of these out there than there were company stores though. Like RCO says, I'd have a look into the history of whichever town you found it in (if you remember where you found it) because these tokens rarely traveled very far at all due to being useless anywhere other than that exact store. Of course it could have been in some kid's coin collection and lost decades after it last circulated, or thrown away by a traveler who forgot they still had it, but it's more likely to have been local to that location.

there isn't always going to be information online about small companies like this listed

more than likely from the general area where you found it years ago

is a lot of different tokens , many more unique tokens than coins
