Found this in a creek in Texarkana, Tx. Figure it is pre 1890's ale or something similar but was curious about the cross embossed on the bottom.

Nice find. probably pre 1890's, possibly European? Don't know what the X means. LEON.

P.S. Welcome to the Site.

Thanks, thought that the cross or x may be a company symbol or trademark. Have seen bottles like this but never with something like that.

Interesting, I think it is a cross rather than an X and it probably was some company's logo, not one I've seen before though. Looks like an earlier one, never seen a top like that on a UK bottle so it could be continental, or just earlier than most of the UK ales we get around here.

I did a quick search and it looks to me like the Order Of Christ cross which was used by the Portuguese. It could be some sort of imported alcohol.

I found one of those diving in central Massachusetts 10 or so years ago. 3-piece black glass with same cross. I don't think I have it anymore I gave it away

Hey HunterTheFox59,et al,

"You are correct sir." Check out The Knights Templar Stories (Many on the Hist. Channel- eg. Oak Island, etc.) and one says some of them may have ended up in your area. --Now, let's not get carried away--they same that about the Vikings (better odds) and even the Egyptians getting over to the Grand Canyon (long shot) and just about anybody that had a boat, could do distance in the desert, or hitched a ride on a UFO. The base embossment on that bottle is a Templar Cross. Just like on the sails of Columbus' ships.* .. Now that bottle is way out of their time period but I wouldn't be surprised to find a modern offshoot organization like the Mason's drinking from that bottle in their honor at one of their many ceremonies. Nice find! Congrats.
*- Columbus married into a Portuguese family and is said to have obtained maps from them for his 1st voyage. Yes, his logs recorded lights/UFO above the ships and in the water the day before sighting the New World by himself, + the crews of the three ships. Happy Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day everyone!

Could’ve held Madeira if it is Portuguese.
