Demijohns Flatten Apple

Aloha! My husband was a collector of bottles for many years for a house project that never happened, so they have been sitting in our attic collecting dust. There are 2 large wickered bottles that are Demijohns Flatten Apple shape and we would like to know if anyone can help us date these and possibly give us a value? They are both 17 1/2 tall and both 15" length, the one with the handle is 12" wide the other is 10". Would love to know age of these and going price, please.

My guess is that these date to the late 1800s to 1910, fairly late in the history of these demijohns. That guess is based on the lip finish on each bottle. You can probe the bottoms for a pontil scar using a crochet hook or other thin tool.

Value is more difficult -- there is no "going price" on these bottles. The best thing to do in my estimation is to search eBay for completed auctions of similar bottles. Figure a reasonable average sales price based on eBay sales. Then you can list your demi's on eBay, or you can set at your local flea market one Saturday.

Speaking strictly for myself, I would have that wicker off in a heartbeat so I could
see that bottle... Roy
