Porter book is good but doesn't really account for the many variations of the SS bottles. For instance, I have 4 variations of a SS Coke from the same city. One is a $30 bottle and one sells for over $200. Wish it was more like the Ayers Pepsi guides.
Egads man!! That looks like some kind of drug resistant glass eating fungus. Better isolate it from the collection. Seriously like the bottle alot, but that top gives me the willies.
I think Bill Porters guide is as good as you will find. I just think the SS Coke section needs to be expanded a bit. There just are too many variations that do affect the value on those bottles.
The blemish on your bottle looks to me like "fire melt" with a smidge of charcoal stain thrown in for good measure.
As for Coca Cola books, I like Allan Petretti's the best but have heard some of the values are inflated. But irregardless of that, they do contain some nice pictures. I have three separate editions of Allan's books which contain the following ...
~ * ~
1994 9th Edition:
Only about 9 straight side bottles pictured but no Denver's.
~ * ~
2001 11th Edition:
Pictures about 90 clear/aqua straight-side bottles
Your Denver bottle is pictured twice for some reason with one valued at $55.00 and one at $125.00.
ncbred's Denver bottle is pictured and valued at $600.00
~ * ~
2008 12th Edition:
Pictures about 100 clear/aqua straight-side bottles
Both your and ncbred's bottles are pictured again at $55.00 and $600.00
~ * ~
Allan states that values are based on bottles in 8.5 or better condition.
Most of the bottle pictures are black & white but there are color sections showing other collectibles.
The 12th Edition (new) generally cost about $50.00. I purchased the other two editions second hand and only paid $5.00 for each.
I'm pretty sure all of the Denver 'script' bottles discussed so far contained genuine Coca Cola. Typically its the BLOCK LETTERING bottles that contained fruit flavors.
