Hello all, I'm a newby to collecting, only about a year as I have dug over 100 soda bottles from the same spot & still finding them there today however, after trying to age some of these for the last year, I have come to the conclusion I sure could use some help from the pros. lol Any help I would appreciate so much! Star symbol & RC embossed on front & back of neck, Pyramids acl on front, Good House Keeping acl on back, PROpERTY OF NEHI BOTTLING CO embossed around bottom along with CONT. 12 FL. OZS. also embossed on front bottom. Bottom is embossed with a 3, diamond entwined with an 0 (oval) with an I in center, 7. 1937?

Hi, welcome. From the description and assuming that dot after the 7 is a period to end a sentence, I'd have to 1937 is correct.

From you're username I'm guessing you're in Alabama. There's a Facebook group where a lot of Alabama collectors share photos and information. And if you're looking for information on a particular Alabama bottle let me know. I wrote the book on Alabama Bottlers thirty years ago. PM me as I don't often check this site. Dennis

Bamakids:

Welcome to the forum.

As member cowseatmaze indicated, your Royal Crown bottle was made in 1937.

To expound on this, I hope you find the following helpful ...

1. The first two links will provide you with some detailed information about the Royal Crown
history and the bottles they produced. The third link is specific to the Owens-Illinois Glass
Company.

http://www.rccolainternational.com/about_royal_crown_history.aspx

http://www.glassbottlemarks.com/owens-illinois-glass-company-bottle-container-marks/

2. Your bottle was made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company which was formed in 1929.

3. I usually reproduce their symbol and codes like this ... 3 <(I)> 7

4. The 3 represents their bottling plant/facility in either Huntington or Fairmont, West Virginia.

5. The (I) is their symbol which is a combination 'O' and an 'I' for Owens-Illinois.

6. The < > is carried over from the Illinois Glass Company who used an 'I' inside a 'diamond.'

7. See charts below for more Owens-Illinois glass plant locations and their dates of operation.

8. Based on what I know about Royal Crown painted label bottles, 1937 was their earliest.

9. I suspect the Good Housekeeping number on your bottle is 4897, which seems to also be related to other brands associated with Royal Crown such as Rums - Par-T-Pak - and Nehi. I was unable to determine exactly what the number 4897 indicates, but believe it is a registered serial number for various Nehi and Royal Crown products.

10. The Ad is from The Kings Mountain Herald ~ Kings Mountain, N.C. ~ October 7, 1937

Yes, and please clarify the embossed statement. I believe there were "debossed" also that were used briefly. The letters were pushed in rather than raised out.I'm working from memory which ain't so good now.

WOW! Y'all are GREAT! Thank you, thank you for the welcome! Much appreciation! Yes Eric, you are correct! "Debossed" is the correct term. I guess you can tell how much of a "newby" I am to this. lol Thank you for clarifying that for me & I do apologize. SODAPOPBOB, many thanks for info & links, etc! I'm seeing there is sooo much I've got to learn but with the help from good ole folks like y'all, maybe, just maybe...I can get these bottles identified. You're the best! Dennis, yes sir...I'm a 40yr old mother of 2 from good ole Tallassee, AL. Got a 5yr old little girl & a 10yr old little boy. Anyways, the kids & I decided to take behind a little Mom & Pop store that still stands but closed in mid to late 70's & stepped on the top of my first old Coca Cola bottle. The Coca Cola bottles are what I have the most of. Dug over 20 just last week. I will definitely pm you as I'd love to know more about your book & how I can acquire a copy! Until next time...Roll Tide!
