"Thank goodness WCBS 880 updated its story about a stray cat who was seen in NJ with a bottle stuck on its head. Raritan Township Animal Control and ASPCA helped save the cat!

The cat had been without water or food for at least 10 days, because it was first seen with the bottle on its head on New Year's Eve. The cat was "near death" when it was rescued; the rescue took so long because it kept running away in fear. Now doctors expect it to make a speedy recovery and the Hunterdon ASPCA will be handling adoption inquiries (908-996-2525; ask for Eva).

And the cat's head was freed from the bottle with some Crisco." Dateline 2008

I HAVE TO GO ON RECORD THAT CANS ARE AN ENDANGERED SPECIES. Cans of every description are being discarded at an alarming rate. Cans come from a distinct and proud heritage. They speak a unique language. They have a special lineage. They come from a special place that deserves respect. God loves cans! Mohammed loves cans! Buddha loves cans! Wicca loves cans! You must love cans if you are going to claim special bragging rights in your community!

Cans are more than simple repositories. Alone in their simple can status they strive for a voice. You use them, abuse them and throw them away. You are a can bigot! Cans shout out for tolerance and diversity. Heed their call!

Millions of orphan cans are looking for a home now. Open your pocketbooks and you lives to empty cans. Used cans, full cans, it does not matter. Make a place in your heart and your homes to cans. A simple donation of 80 percent of your monthly income will go a long way to helping cans find the rightful place they deserve. Opening your home to needy cans will show everyone you have arrived as the "liberal savant" and assure your place in the Putty Head Hall of Fame.

Remember, a can is a terrible thing to waste!

James has got it right, folks. Even as we dilly dally here appreciating old glass, there are orphanages overflowing with old cans, past their expiration date. These are but a few of the stories in Tin City...
