Thanks for the comments everyone, we do have wild boars here in Florida; ..Asian and other types, I remember getting chased by some when I was I kid back in the 70's(it iwas scary when I was 10!). I used to see packs? of them a lot in the woods, but not so much any more, ...I guess because they are so delicious....I WILL swerve off the road in my min-van to take home dinner! harharhar...I aplogize in advance to any of those who are vegitarians...... here's another pic showing the rust/bottle layer, Starke is a shallow dig but there is a layer of clay that you have to dig through and the ground is hard as a rock, not as easy as it seems.

Thanks for the advice logueb, I dont have a gun , but do know when to exit the area in case of a protective hog, hogs can be quite dangerous. Starke is a huge dump, but you have to dig through 40's & 50's crap before you get to anything good. Any embossed Starke soda or med is rare and valuable, I have dug a couple starke meds. and some 1915 cokes, but still no SS soda's. Starke is also a great knick-knack dump (marbles, stoppers, dolls, oddities, etc)---girlfriend loves digging there....

Hello Floridadigger, I'm in Jacksonville and if you ever need a partner I'm available to go. Let's talk some about digging.

bttlmark; ..starke is heavily dug; ...this is the newest of the three, ...most diggers dont bother, ...I have not found the older two yet, and I have met some old timers who wont release the location. I believe the older two are near the same creek which runs past the back of the dump. I think I can follow the creek into the older part of town (once the water receeds a bit.

Hey diggincajun; ..I was just in Jax yesterday making a delivery. I know where we can dig in Jax for SS cokes and more(although the Jaguars might get a bit upset!) Under the stadium was a good dump; ..but as usual all dumps get covered eventually. I stopped by The Starke dump on the way back to check out the flooding issue; ..its bad, ..and the mosquitos are even worse...vicious would be the right word. I have a decent trench open at Starke that has a burnt 40's 50's crap on top; ..but underneath that is a 10 inch to a foot thick red layer that has mostly soda's & milks from 1920's, 1930's range(tough bottles that did not crush-usually round in shape); ..have not found any SS soda's in the hole yet..... I also have a place to dig in Gainesville; ..but parking is a little tricky as it is near a apartment complex and tow truck companies "prowl" the area for cars without parking decal, ..but I think I can find a place (might have to walk a bit).

Here's another Starke pic; ..girlfriend and I were digging inot one of the "push-up" mounds that were created when the dump was being used. This hole was mostly dug already(you can tell by the grey colored mixed dirt; ..undug areas have the white sand & dark dirt separated.

Here's another pic from Starke; ..the city recenty leveled about 1/3 of the dump to make a soft-ball field. I was digging near the edge in a shallow area; ..once again lots of 40' & 50's junk; ..but still a thin older layer mixed in here & there.....
