Due to a lack of functionally-decent and free old maps online, I recently started making maps to help me quickly pinpoint various structures.

Would anyone here would have a need for them? Just trying to get a feel of the need for this type of product.

Lidar maps allow one to find structures/paths underneath the tree cover and the overlays allow one to easily compare the stated locations of old buildings with the most current (or older) satellite views.

1. I can make custom Lidar maps to specification with a quicker turnaround time.

2. I also currently make Old Map/Google Earth Overlays. These are trickier to make depending on the map. I can make these with medium turnaround time.

3. Future state I have a lot of different ideas for maps that allow the user to quickly find the spot they're looking for ;)

Attached you can find two tiny samples of my work-A sanborn/Earth overlay and a Lidar map.

I use the Sanborns & sometimes Sanborns with newer Earth Overlay. These seem to work best. I've heard of the Lidar but not that familiar with them. Do you have access to a Scottsboro Alabama Sanborn? LEON.

I'll make you a lidar of the spot we dug for fun and send it your way, maybe you can gain some hidden insight into the area since the sanborns I looked at after our dig of the area seemed to not indicate anything special in regards to a dump. Funny how searching for things works like that.

As for the Scottsboro map, hmmm I wouldn't know where to start the search for sanborns that aren't readily available on the LOC. Any ideas other than a local search? I'm a research hound on the internet if given a good lead.

The Sanborns for that dump area we dug start at 1926. Curious, did you find older ones? Sanborns were made for the Fire Department & if no Fire Department no Sanborns until they got one, as far as I know. I heard Lidar was good to find old Mines in the U.P. LEON.

I've been using USGS maps. Since it was very rural here there aren't any Sanborn maps to go by and the USGS maps show the dirt roads, long gone now, and squares marking structures.
