Found this Duffy Malt Whiskey bottle today.

On the bottom it says Patented August 24 1886.

Also found this interesting pottery fragment with the word 'Oat' on it.

Tread gently in the area you found that canister chip. Hopefully, the rest of it is there, intact, and it's an easy mend. Those honey amber Duffies look great on the window sill when the sun hits them. (They sell well too.)

The Duffies might sell well but only in the $5.00 to $15.00 range since so common. LEON.

Yes, they are kind of common here in CT too. I've sold nice condition examples a wee bit higher. They usually top out in this neck of the woods at $25.

Duffy Malt Whiskey (with "e" in the spelling the product must not have been a "Scotch" whisky) bottles are common, but I have always been fond of them due to the distinctive shape. The squat Paul Jones bottles with the shoulder seal are another example of a common find that still hits the spot for me.

Common as they are both considered, I never dug either one, except for shards.

Why latex gloves?

I wear latex gloves and then put even thicker rubber gloves over them. This keeps my hands clean. Unfortunately you cannot touch most of NYC's coastal waters or the mud/dirt therein with your bear skin because it's polluted by the sewer system and you can get infections.

Makes sense. Sounds much riskier than digging a century-old privy pit elsewhere! (Bohdan probably has no such risks where he hunts bottles. While heavy metals from mining activity might pollute some of the Slocan waters, ornery moose and bears are the more probable challenges.)
