Hi, I have an insulator with pronounced exterior threads and a hollow inside with a hole on top. It is 5" high and is 2 1/2" across the bottom. Has anyone ever seen one like this before? Thanks, historynut

I've never seen a capacitor bushing with a spiral design like that, and there is no electrical reason for it. I suspect it's a decorator item or piece of a lamp or some such.

I used to repair high voltage equipment, transformers, regulators, oil circuit reclosers, etc. and for the life of me I have never seen a spiral bushing used on any piece of electrical insulating equipment ancient or modern.

Thanks so much for all of your input. I live a few miles away from General Electric in Schectadty NY. My thought is that maybe it was custom made for one of GE's projects. The inside of the hole on top looks like it was ground to fit onto something. I bought it at a yard sale for a dollar. The unusual design of it caught my eye.
