About a week or two ago I went to the antique store and saw this never-before-seen A.S. Hosley milk bottle from Tupper Lake, NY. This makes it around 30 brands that have been confirmed to exist from my town, let alone around double that in varieties. I was so shocked to see this one for sale because the consensus among local collectors was that none of these had survived. Hosley was a known dairy proprietor here but the only evidence of bottles were a few shards found in dumps since the farm had been built over. Hosley was actually a VP for the Tupper Lake National Bank at the turn of the century and also was one of the founders of our largest milk company, Altamont Milk Co. Inc. (1920-74). This particular Hosley bottle, the only one currently known, has a 1915 Thatcher Mfg. Co. date code and an amethyst tint. So stoked to own this one!
