My guess is this was put on to prevent someone from tampering with it , but why is the bottom always look like it was snapped off.

Nice glass stopper. One up on me. I've never found cork on one or a metal wrapped one. I think the corks are sheared off at that point in as the last step in manufacturing. I think every stopper i have has that scar.

I've found a few of those metal wrapped ones, they show up more commonly in areas where more imported UK bottles are found. I see them on liquor bottle stoppers more than sauce bottle stoppers, but they can be found for both. Never seen yours before. I'm not sure exactly what purpose, if any, the metal wrapping served. As for the broken end, it's definitely something to do with the manufacturing process, presumably they were snapped off after being formed in the mold.

I haven't been able to find anything about
" Quality Prevents Substitution "
Yet. I have 6 plain 2 Lea and Perean and Hot sauce that are embossed.

Bottle stoppers were pressed glass and were pressed multiple at a time attached to a central hub that they were then snapped off from. That is why they look like that with the snapped bottom end. The metal at the top is part of the original foil closure that would have wrapped down the neck somewhat.

I'm not sure if the metal was always connected to a foil closure, the ones I've got don't really look like they're supposed to connect to any other metal and are wrapped on there pretty tightly. I'll have to have a closer look when I next get the chance though.

It's fairly thick, no clue what the blue around the top of the lip is maybe a glue.
