I found what appears to be a ladies powder compact. You can see "compressee poudre truvy" stamped on it. I have the front and back and hinge edge pictured. How do I remove all the rust. Is there a solution I can soak it in?I cant find any information on it other than possibly French. Thanks

Appears to be brass. Just me, but I'd leave it as is. Neat find.

I have found many beautiful compacts in the past when digging for bottles. My sister collects them so it works out great!

Does it have a mirror in it too? I found one from around 1960, but the mirror is severely damaged! Mine seemed to have a brass mesh backing on one end, to hold...? Do you know when yours is from yet?

No Bear I do not. It is rusted shut. I need to find a solution to soak it in to free up the rust seal and hinge. I was thinking of soaking it in WD-40 but if there is another solution I am open to trying it. It is heavy so it just may be brass.

Good luck! Mine broke open when I picked it up--I can put it back together, but it won't work right.

It looks to be from the 1920s-1930 if it is brass WD-40 should not hurt it but from the way it's rusted I'm not to sure it is solid brass.
