Anyone familiar with this bottle? It has characteristics of a wine: push up base, barely discernible pontil, correct shape, laid on tooled ring...but it's clear and very thin - not at all heavy like most wines. Thoughts anyone?

it's about 6" tall and about 2 1/2 " in diameter at the base.

I dont know anything about bottles, but isnt a 6" tall bottle kinda short for a wine?I would think it was some kind of medicine or apothecary.Volume sounds like a half pint or pint maybe?Interesting bottle.

mebbe "wine' was a misnomer, but it more closely resembles a wine than anything else, even though a short one...LOL
Thanks for the input, good suggestions.

Hi charlie, its tough to tell what use the bottle had however I can tell you it is old.My guess 1780 to 1800.
The shape and form is very closley related to the the mallet chestnut bottles of the same era.It has a nice push up pontil
which tells me it was more then likley blown by a German glass gaffer.Nice bottle how to did you aquire it?

I have seen a number of these over the years. At least a couple were mixed in with late 19th century European bottles. Leads me to think they are not as early as they look.
I think they may have been a wicker covered utility bottle.

I think GuntherHess may be right. The lip finish just doesn't look right, nor does the glass. Looks French. A later Demijohn would be my guess.
