Ft Jackson La. Olive Green Wine

This olive green wine was dug at Ft Jackson La. which was built 1822-1832 to protect the lower river/New Orleans and fell during a civil war battle in 1862. Used as a training facility in 1890s and early 1900s. The bottle has a high kick up bottom and very crude top. Since there is not a single marking on it, I wanted to see if anyone had an idea of its approx age.

Seems like they made Bottles like that for 100 Years, like ranging from 1850's to 1950's. But, that one does have a sloppy laid on ring top making it older but how old I don't know, guessing maybe pre 1900 but I'm no wine bottle expert. Maybe someone more knowledgeable on this type of bottle will chime in? LEON.

Off topic but the date on this John Ryan. Is 1859 the patent date like mason jars or the year it was made?

I think once they put a date in a mold that mold will get used over & over again for many Years with out changing the Date in Mold. LEON.

P.S. Bottom doesn't look like a open pontil or iron pontil, but i don't know anything about all those other pontiles people mention like sand? polished? ect., ect.

Hi Bannon
I'm no expert but my guess is your bottle just missed the pontil or even possibly that is a sticky ball pontil. No matter what, it's a nice bottle, and I would suspect it was made in the early 1860s.

Anyone is welcome to correct me here if they disagree. Roy
