I ran into this ghost plant (also called Indian pipe) in the woods a while back. I found out that the dried powder form of this plant was used as a substitute for opium. Not sure i would want to try it but I thought it was interesting enough to post. Sure others have run into this mushroom looking plant that isn't a mushroom at all. I posted a link with great information if anyone is interested as I was.

I've seen these before too, never realized that they aren't mushrooms. Also never knew about their psychoactive properties!

I've seen them before, kind of know the Indian pipe name but never knew of their medicinal properties.

Interesting, never seen one before. on a side-note: there's a Netflix show: "Fantastic Fungi". And as much as I see fungus on my hikes in the woods I'd never try them. Heard too many stories about organs shutting down.

Never saw anything like it while doing forestry in the Pacific Northwest back in the 1980s.
They are found in the United States from the Carolinas to Maine and westward to Missouri. Loads of them in the woods in N.J.
