I think the ABM ones were domestically made and the cruder applied top versions were imported from Europe. They show up alongside each other in dumps so seem to have been in use simultaneously in the early 20th century.
Early 20th century agrees with contents and context of dumpsite where I recovered a couple of those machine made case gins myself. It had been a small mining operation near Ainsworth, BC.We get a lot of these case gins in Canada.
