Glass gas can.. Or?

This glass jar was left in my garage when we bought our house, There are no markings on it. It smells like it has really old gas in it. The cap is screw on with a spring loaded plunger. It stands about 22" to the top of the bottle. So what is it, or was it supposed to be used for?? Thanks in advance!

Hey, thanks.. at least I know what it is. I assume it is worthless, Eh?

It not worthless to someone who has a kerosene cook stove.
A neighbor of mine still uses one.
