I think this is a food bottle, possibly relish? It's BIM and looks to be 1880's-1890's. I'm trying to figure out the rarity and if possible the value of this bottle. Any input will be well received. Thanks-

Ketchup Pickles Sauces (Zumwalt, 1980) says very scarce. Goes on to say H. E. Coy was listed as packers, preservers, jobbers from 1890 through 1910.On a side note, I bought a bottle indicated as very rare by Zumwalt for $16. There seems to be much lower interest in food bottles.

Thanks Michael. My father just let me know that an old collector friend of his from Rochester has one in his collection and he only has very nice bottles so I'm assuming that it holds a fair value :)

for some reason food bottles get little respect although there are some great examples of the art of bottle design out there.

Some food bottles great a lot of respect!Example cathedral pickle bottles..especially in green, cobalt, and amber...also the price can zoom up if they are a WELLINGTON CATHEDRAL PICKLE..an amber went for $80 thou.for some years ago..there are other great pickles too.....some very nice pepper sauces...there are other examples of some great food bottles like the cobalt vinegar bottle that looks like a CASPERS whiskey..it is beautiful!Next..ACKER'S select tea..11 1/2 tall..square..emerald green.. crown top embossed elephant and much more embossment..one i would love to have..many others...but yes many food bottles are clear/aqua..no embossment... The best book for food jars..bottles etc. is ZUMWALTS book on them..a classic is maybe the best.JAMIE

h.e. coy bottle is listed in this book and listed as very scarce..which doesn't equal in a huge value cause it is just a clear bottle common shape, with no interesting embossing..coy was listed as packers...jobbers...,and preservers from 1880-1910.on the scale used in the book very scarce = 200 known..but this book was written in 1980..so many many may have been found since that time..hope this helped some..worth..maybe $10-$15 or so..JAMIE

And that would likely be 200 known to the author, not everyone worldwide.I don't think that would be possible. She could have used some some probability formula I guess. [:)]
