I asked the question some time back to those of you who are fortunate enough to be digging up those privies if you have ever dug any open pontiled sodas. I do not recall ever seeing any posts in answer to that question, but I know for sure that I will miss different posts that are posted at times. I would like to hear some responses from you Fellows concerning that issue. The reason I am asking this question is that I have only seen one open pontiled soda, it being possibly a dark teal, paneled Squat from Cincinnati. Not sure if that was its color, but whatever it was, it was so dark, that you could not see light through it. Wish I could remember the name of it. At the time, I saw it, it was the only one found of that name. It had an extremely jagged open pontil. Again, it is the only soda I have seen that was open pontiled.
This bottle was in a collection owned by man who lived in Williamsburg , Ohio. He had worked for one of the big construction companies who built the River Front Stadium as well as doing a lot of other construction down along the Riverfront. He had an absolute fantastic collection, especially sodas and beer, as well as many other bottles of interest as well. This Gentleman was a victim of Alzheimer's, and has been gone now for some time. I heard a story that his Wife had went to the store, and upon coming home found here Husband sitting in a chair with a small amount of money in his hands, and his entire collection was gone. I have never known for sure if that story was true or not, I hope it was not. If so, some pathetic person or persons had came in with him being alone, and cheated him out of his entire collection for a small amount of money, being he did not have his mental capabilities at the time.[/align]
