I am looking for a Coke bottle that was bottled in Hawthorne, Florida for my Dad. My great-grandfather, F.W. Tyson opened it after his Standard Oil Delivery company closed down. He owned it from 1915 - 1926 and it was sold to Florida Coca-Cola Co. of Jacksonville, Fla. My Dad grew up there and has fond memories of his grandfather working there because the bottling company was located in the backyard of the house they lived in. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.

Here's several cases of Coca Cola bottles (circa 1919) from Hawthorne, Florida. Is this a picture of your relatives?

Does your family have an original photo like this?

Yes, we do. It was one of three framed photographs from that time period hanging above our fireplace.

Fantastic! A true family treasure, not to mention a rare Coca Cola photo.

According to Bill Porter's Checklist, a 1915 Coca Cola hobbleskirt bottle from Hawthorne, Florida is extremely rare and probably going to be a very hard bottle to find. The 1923 - D'Patent - 6 ounce and 6 1/2 ounce bottles are listed as unknown to exist. Sounds like the bottling facility was only in operation for a very brief period.

PS ~

Bill Porter's listing for a 1915 Hawthorne bottle is RR "Very Rare," and indicates there are only about 1 to 5 known examples.

Hopefully one of the Florida collectors has one, otherwise ... ???

If anyone in the country has a Hawthorne bottle it might be Bill Porter.

Here's his public E-mail address so you can ask him. He's a great guy and will help you if he can. He might even be interested in hearing about your family history.

I have a 1925 Hawthorne directory which shows F W Tyson as bottler if your interested. email me at cokemanfla@hotmail.com and I'll send you a scan. Fredrick William Tyson bought the bottling business from a Mr Cowart in 1915.
