Hahaha...I am with you Mailman. What beautiful finds you have there....where did you find them? Really like the door lock and the horse tag. @Bruce...love the quote about people being the treasure we seek...inspirational! @Robby...I will definitely follow your advice. thank you all. :)
Long and short of it. My daughter was board, went out to look for some antlers, found 1. I remember as a kid messing around in a old burn dump (closed 1930 ) lots of bottles and other things later. I dig them up.

Welcome from another Virginia board newbie (Northern VA). As the name implies, I collect all sorts of brewery advertising and beer containers from the Old Dominion state. Surprisingly lots of stuff out there including a few bits from your town in the late 1800's. Did much more digging/dumping in my younger years, now mostly trade/buy. I recall a link to an article about the brewing industry in Newport News from it's founding. Let me know if interested and I'll see if I can find it again. Good luck!

I have found, for me, that digging for bottles and metal detecting can be quite therapeutic and relaxing.
A friend of mine lives near a place where a casino used to be located back in the 40's and we are finding
numerous bottles. Both of us are going through issues with divorces and bottle digging is helping cope,
even if for a while. Was that an old door lock from the pic you posted?

Thank you @VABrew... I recently started getting more interested in collecting/trading bottles. A friend of mine lives in VA Beach and recently found out there was an old casino near his residence; needless to say, we both started digging and kept finding near mint bottles of all kinds. Lots of cracked ones as well, but hey, the rush of the hunt keep us going and the therapeutic element helps us deal tremendously with the stress of life.
I would really appreciate it if you could send me the link for that article; I am an avid reader and would like to learn more about the bottling industry in this area. My wife is also from the Eastern Shore, where Coca-Cola had a bottling factory in Exmore. I believe there was one located in downtown Newportnews as well.
Do you know of any groups that get together for meets or group digging?

So can't find the NN brewing history link, but you might like the site below better. It is a 1990 architectural survey of NN from 1600's through 1900's. Dry material, but regarding brewing it mentions outside operations that set up branches like Pabst, Hoster, National and Robert Portner as well as local Warwick and Old Dominion Breweries. Does mention Coca Cola bottling around late 1890's.

I will definitely check it out. I have a question: How collectible, in your opinion, are the Stumpf bottles?
I acquired one that had a crack on top, nothing major, but recently sold it due to moving (garage sale)
and now am regretting it. I'd like to see a pic of your most precious bottle as well, if that is o.k.
Thanks for the article again! will let you know what I find.

Which variation? There are several and they are all excellent and worthy of collecting.

Would echo UncleBruce that pretty much anything Peter Stumpf is collectible. He was an agent for Anheuser Busch, then founded the Richmond Brewing Co that turned into Home Brewing that made Richbrau beer both pre pro and up until the 1960's. Most bottles I have are not that valuable (although do have National and Old Dominion embossed from NN). However, for you, here is a pic of a sign from Old Dominion Brewing Co. that was opened for just a couple years in Newport News at the turn of the twentieth century. Also have a pre pro serving tray with the same graphic that is very toasty. Ok - back to bottles!!

I find it hard to believe that these were found together. Every thing I post is dug from a burn dump in the Chicago land area.
