Found these in a HUGE milk dump. Many different dairies, but these have little to go on. I saw what I believe to be a sham listing for it, saying it was from a certain trains dining car, hence the "400".
No info on them ..but id figure id let you know your doing better then me in the milk department..lol i dug 23 all broken today not 1 full embossment to read = ( broken babys head cream tops and pink depression glass milk..Guess they dont call it depression glass for nothing...Keep pulling em up whole man = )
Josh, The 7-ounce "400" milk bottles were used by a lot of railroads on dining cars. We find them here in PA sometimes. Although quite common, they are a nice looking little milk. I have never figured out what the "400" or "RICO FLAVOR" means. Does yours have that embossed on it? ~Jim
P.S.- I just did a little Google research. It appears that 400 was a chocolate milk drink that was produced starting in the 1920s.
Unfortunately, I dug through about 3000, and brought these two cracked, chipped, scratched up versions home because they were the only ones without a town name on them. I had 3 of the 400's, but one was cracked 3/4 around, and the best looking one got tossed into the water by some hillbilly from Illinois.[8|] Oh well, it was a crap bottle too, just thought it an oddball. Mine doesn't have rico flavor on it, but there were 50 or so of these broken, so some of them might have.
While I find both your theories interesting I know the correct answer.."400" ft. is the distance a pint size bottle will fly when tossed downwind.YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
