Hi all thanks for the add. I’m pretty new to the hobby as it just kinda fell into my lap. I’m an excavator operator and just started noticing cool bottles in the dirt in front of me. Picked a few up and we’ll the rest is history. Here’s my finds from this week.

Welcome to the forum, those are incredible finds! Eight BC ginger beers in one week? Plenty of BC diggers were never manage to find a single one. And I think that Meikle Bros is an especially good one, those are extremely desirable among collectors if I remember correctly.

Thanks CB! The Meikle Bear bottle literally slid out of the dump truck that was dumping in front of my machine! I also have some various glass bottles, one of which is a Meikle if I remember correctly. And yes in one week lol they’re from the site of where they are gonna build the new St. Paul’s hospital down town Vancouver (Station and Main I believe)

BC Bottler-

You hit a mother lode of bottles in fantastic shape. I love the Stafford Ink bottle and of course your local BC finds are remarkable collection for newcomer.

If you are new to antique bottles, then you probably have little notion of just how envious you have mad a bunch of people! First chance at newly uncovered dump site with antique bottles is a great job perk.

If I lived up there, I would be visiting you on the job site! Or, at least trying to find out where the excavated material is being dumped. If you have access to that location, check out the piles after every heavy rain for freshly exposed bottles. I live in Port Angeles, so know first hand how wet it is getting in our region now.

Thanks for posting!

Hi, You certainly hit the jackpot with the black bear ginger. There are less than 10 known and it is rare. There are many advanced bottle collectors in B.C. Google "fvaccsite" ( Fraser Valley Antiques and Collectors Club ) for information on bottle collecting. Sign up for the newsletter to meet up with other collectors. Get Bill Wilson's books On the market today your black bear would bring $750-$1000 ( if it is undamaged no cracks or chips) or more depending on current demand and I would be first in line.

Welcome! I'm a bottle digger just across the river from you in Abbotsford.

Congratulations, those are amazing finds! Pretty much any B.C. ginger beer is a good find these days, but the Meikle Bros. "Standing Bear" is in another league! I've never dug one, but a digging buddy of mine dug one earlier this year. His was missing its top, but he had it professionally restored. Yours seems to be in much better condition, so you won't have trouble finding a buyer.
