Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nicholas and I’m from Montana..
I got the glass bug when I was hiking/ hunting, and found a purple solarized glass bottle bottom. Since then I have been collecting bottles from the Yellowstone river. I have been fascinated with old American glass insulators lately. Just thought I would share my collection of insulators that I scrounged up in the last couple months. My collection is expanding rapidly, but will most likely end abruptly. Like all my other hobbies, LOL...

Very neat collection of insulators. That last one is amazing. No a big insulator collector. I collect mostly soda and beer bottles, local N.Y.- N.J. area.

Thanks. I should mention the last one pictured is a McLaughlin commemorative insulator, illuminated by a black light.. a cool effect.

Great selection of insulators! Do you dive for them? When you say: "Since then I have been collecting bottles from the Yellowstone river." do you mean that you've been recovering them from the river's waters?

Less than a year ago, I acquired a bit over half a section of land that lies just east of the old Milwaukee Road Substation No. 9 at Ravenna, MT (east of Clinton). That railroad was electrified. About 1/2 mile of old poles, crossbars and draped wire runs along my property. Unfortunately, the only evidence of insulators I've seen so far are shattered remnants either clinging to the bars or, more often, littering the ground beneath.

No I don’t go swimming. The bottles I have been finding are solid intact, and so they float with the logs. I have pretty good luck wandering through the log jams..

Sounds dangerous, I don't think my lumberjacking skills are that good.

It is kind of dangerous. It’s a great way to break a leg or step on something rusty.
I find a large variety of bottles and cans. From 90s glass soda bottle to 70s glass oil bottles, Rainer beer cans. Old beer glass.
I know a couple places that have old homestead dumps from before 1900 to after 1950. It’s pretty scary looking through those dumps. Found an old hypodermic needle with glass tube. An old transistor radio vacuum tube. Lots of green depression glass. It’s fun to go at night with a powerful UV black light. My favorite piece is a hexagonal jam jar with swirl finish. It’s in perfect shape and from 1910-1925. I love the utilitarian glass.

Got a picture of that utilitarian jar. Sounds worth a shot. I have a depression glass and milk glass spot. All the cool stuff is broke or been taken. I still find little things like cake plates and tea cups. Some pink too.

It’s just an old jar, but I like it. Need to find the right size lid for it.
That purple solarized glass bottle bottom, is what got me hooked on old glass. I found it near an old army supply trail, but it was on top of a mountain. There are old cabins and mining prospects from around 1900..
the oil jar is only from 1975.

A piece of insulator dome glass, found in the river. I put a polish on it using my tumbler.
