This fruit or canning jar may be some sort of cork top but not 100% sure. Im trying to figure out it's age and worth. There is a seam all the way around at the shoulder part of the jar and it goes up toward the mouth but doesnt look like it actually reaches the mouth. The bottom has a small raised dot right in the center. Measures approx. 8 1/4 inches in height. There are no markings anywhere on this for identification. Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a number of jars like this and they had a glass top with cork on the inside on them. I was told by someone I purchased one from that they were display jars at stores. One of mine was full of Cinnamon.

Thanks for the reply. I've never came across one like this before so i was thinking it was rare. Would you happen to have a picture of one with the correct lid?

Appears to be a tooled lip. It's not a perfectly shaped lip and has some irregularities. No sign of concentric rings. Would that put this pre 1870?

Looks tooled to me, too but resembles in profile the applied tops on the petal fruit jars that are usually pontiled and a bit older. I believe a disc-shaped cork stopper was used and sealed with wax. In short, definitely looks like a fruit jar dating 1870-1880.

The crack in the base and up the side would really hurt the value of your jar.

Even without the crack, I'm afraid value will be somewhat minimal due to the lack of embossing, pontil mark, character and color (unfornunately aqua doesn't count). I would display it and enjoy it, just as I do with most of my bottles which are worth little to nothing.

Went back and looked at the top and it could be either applied or outwardly rolled. Impossible to tell without being able to feel just inside the top or some dang near impossible to take photographs. If it were in mint condition, I'd guess $30 to $50. The crack would make it a tough sale at any price because cracks have been known to run. As I mentioned previously, enjoy it. It's a pretty jar.
