I just got in this great painted teakettle from a French eBay auction. It’s a M333 from Joe Mathews’ book. The paint is near perfect. Hard to find perfect paint that hasn’t been redone and I believe this one is original.
You do have to be careful on eBay. If you go there and search for teakettle inkwells and check the “completed” box on the left, you can see a recently sold teak with gold painted leaves. The gold paint is perfect but, you can see light worn blue lines on the body. These worn paint lines with perfect relief painted leaves is a real red light. I contacted the seller and asked about the paint. His reply was “I prefer not to answer”. Too bad however bought it could not see the post back to me.
