Dug this old oval stone liner Sun-Tues. Had more pontil era glass than any other I have dug here in Hannibal. The ratio was pretty good as well, about one in four whole bottles. Of course the best was either busted or damaged. The pint fruit jar is an A. Stone in arch smooth based with a big crack running length of seam line. Would have been the best $ glass from the hole....Jack

Dug 25 total whole undamaged bottles with 14 pontiled, rest smooth base. The farthest scroll has a half dollar sized hole in side, a "rare" 5 point star, the both of them.....the vials are both op Dr. Thompsons Eye Waters and the one has a flaired lip variation and from Bridgeport. Hello, Matt, this one isn't listed in your book with this lip treatment, a rare one? A RRR Radway op, nice crack the length, boo hoo, and a plain Rowands, Phila. in good cond. and a strange Harrison's Columbian Perfumery smooth base and a bust off lip treatment.

These were dug under what I initially believed to be the bottom of the hole but found some gravel under the clay base, plus the walls kept going, and so did I. These 5 cylinders and the intact 5 point scroll were under the gravel! Then clunk, hit real bottom....

Some in situ pics of one of the cylinders.....very little opportunity for pics as the bottles were generally small and just "appeared" almost out of nowhere. Very soft & fluffy with tons of rocks. Go figure.......

Wow man, grrreat looking dig! Terrific pics too. I like the cylinders too...the crudeness, the whittle and color! Real rare to find scrolls .... too bad they have damage. I'm not very experienced with rare canning/fruit jars.... so I'll defer to others to comment on that.
Thanx for posting the successful dig.... really awesome,
Fred
