Lets go Fiddleheadin`!

Yesterday I headed up-country to try my luck at finding some Fiddleheads.They are a fern that grows by the rivers edge and are my favorite spring time food.In this pic. you can see the river off in the background and one of the many inlets where they like to grow in the foreground.

In this picture collage you can see the nodes that they grow out of in various stages. As they grow too big they unfurl to become the mature fern.

I saw a few tracks and here are Mr.Beavers track with some of his handi-work.

I saw a couple of other residents tracks.On the left is Mr.Coyotes track that doesn`t show too well and Mr.deers track on the right that kind of slid in the mud.

I thought a little color was needed for this narration,so I stopped to shoot these Violets in a deer trail.

This area is home to a tree farm and the Spruce is pretty all in a row.I found an old foundation and some 'new' bottles.I also found a big hole something is living in with an old buggy wheel rim and a smaller hole not too far away.I guess they thought it made a nice place to live too.

After I got back to the big city,I asked the Post Office teller how many people live in this town.She had no accurate count but judged the population to be around 150.[]

Finally on my way,I slowed down so as not to spook a couple of kids horses.Ahhh, life in the slow lane.I wouldn`t have it any other way.[] After fighting a horde of Black flies and sweating from picking Fiddleheads,its time to buy a cold beer in the next town because this one hasn`t any store.

Some people say Fiddleheads taste like Asparagus,but I think they taste like Fiddleheads.If you ever come up to Maine,you need to try them after they have had their 'onionskins' cleaned off them and cooked in a little salt pork and served with butter and maybe a touch of vinegar.I`m droolin` already![]
