Thanks for all the ideas about cans ! 
The last one i read had me intrigued. Every can I've ever dug has the same boring brown look. These can't be brought back to life in some way can they ? i only ask because I've seen a (dead) link on the net about how to bring rusted beer cans back to semi-respectabiliy. I have always assumed the rust has actually replaced the label section, not covered it.
