This seller http://www.ebay.com/sch/olustee1959/m.html?item=111249152972&fromMakeTrack=true&ViewItem=&ssPageName=VIP%3Awatchlink%3Atop%3Aen&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 has some unique colors on ebay right now. The one that caught my eye was this light light blue cone below. However, upon review of their open listings, some are obviously irradiated. There are some that aren't so obvious too, including a Wistars in an odd but not far off from realistic color that is turning real money at present. At first I thought some of these might be actual real colors, but they've got to be suspect with some of the obviously irradiated stuff like the screwy blue mason jar. This irradiation stuff is getting out of hand... How can we trust what appear to be genuine colors from a seller who also has obviously irradiated stuff? Jim G

We could always buy one, then leave negative feedback explaining the irradiation. I always read sellers' negative feedback if they have any to see if there is a trend, or if it's just bad buyers. That might help getting the word out.

Not to alienate or stereotype anyone from FLA., but I refuse to buy from that area as a result of the knowingly deceptive practice going on from there. A few EBay sellers like olustee1959, gator-ben, iluvjax, etc are creating a bad name for the glass collectors in those parts. Now don't get me wrong, if a person wants to pay a premium for an irradiated piece of glass that's fine. Most people don't have access or the ability to produce these colors, therefore it should be worth something. That's fine. But these sellers are knowingly selling nuked items in an attempt to deceive. No where in the listing do they state so, but I've emailed and they admit they were nuked So, you will inform a knowledgable collector, but not an unknowing one?

These guys nuked some Marion Patent Nov 30th 1858 jars that came out looking near amber (maybe with a little Photoshop help) that sold for over hundreds (one sold for over a thousand). They sold a long time jar collector an off cornflower blue jar a while back as well. For the uneducated, here's one of the better articles concerning altered colors that was done for the National Insulators Association.

Some past jars ( there are more bottles):

That was my first thought when I saw the Wistar's.

Back to the ink. It looks like some blue dye build up and it's a clear bottle. From here anyway.[8|]

The thing is that those color runs on cone inks have really driven the prices up. If that actually is an ice blue, for real, it'll command several hundred in this market. This seller also has a couple of slightly different amber or olive amber cones that I now don't trust as well. The Wistars is a real red flag, as that is a bottle that, in color, is worth something. Not like nuking the TOC slick meds and hawking them for $10. This is nuking higher end stuff to make real $ and throw off the serious collectors. Plus, as these filter out into the market as genuine, how are we going to know what's real from what's nuked? Right now it's fairly easy to avoid certain sellers. What happens when they go through a collector or two and end up on a genuine auction listing, someone like Hecklers? It's a bad turn for the hobby. Jim G

If I could get the inks for $10 shipped, I'd like to give them a proper bath and see what happens to them. $75 and counting isn't worth trying to get a refund just to leave a negative and get banned for trying.I've got a green to olive shade but it has a sharpness where it stuck in the mold so I wouldn't get $5 for it. Even though that's maker flaw I find attractive it would be considered a flaw/defect.

I'm still not seeing that ink as anything more than some blue stain, not blue glass. At over $150 now someone is getting the screw up the backside I think.

if its not stated ebay should shut them down...you can use the "report item" link in the listing it has worked in the past but it seems like ebay looks the other way now, the same way they look the other way on bootlegged dvds
