I went out digging for the first time in a while earlier today, and figured that the TOC spot found this January would be ready to hit. I had excavated a rather large cavern in the dump and it had caved in soon thereafter, but I wanted the abundant rains to continue settling and collapsing the unstable mess I had left behind. I got in behind a big fallen tree root clump and started attacking the layers. 4.5 hours later here's what I left with:
Note the 4 Weyman's snuff jars and the gallon Macomb jug. So far I've gotten 6 snuff jars and 10 intact jugs, and there are many many more to be had in here. I know this because I saw them at the end of a little tunnel I made today that requires expansion before retrieving more of the good stuff, and the juicy layer was getting damn thick as I kept on trenching in that direction. all 4 druggists came out of that zone too.
These guys made my day. I love the "Wheel" on the Wheeler bottles. 1 6 ounce I needed, and 2 4 ounce Wheelers of a different and presumably newer style that I have never heard or or seen a shard from before. The ones in the style of the 6 ouncer are quite tough as it is, so finding another variety was really sweet. The last druggist is a 4 ouncer I think I need, not positive though.
Also got 3 hutches! A dig in this dump isn't complete unless you go home with at least one hutch. 2 are common "The City Bottling Co. Peoria, ILL" examples, and I got another scarce cylindrical Singer hutch. Good times.
Crier of a local patent med. "Dr. Reeder's syrup of tar and wild cherry bark etc." My hands knew precisely what it was as I grabbed the neck from the darkness, and then my eyes noticed the caved-in side panel. What a pain in my arse.
As you can see I got a decent number of embossed non-locals too, but compared to my precious Peoria BIMs they are crap. [8D]
Plan to go back there quite soon to do a more involved dig with my father, perhaps on the 5th or 6th, so hopefully we will have some goods to share with y'all shortly.
Good luck and happy digging people! []
