Does anyone have a explanation on long mounds of dirt found in old abandon landfills? My local abandon landfill has one filled with trash. Is this dirt from digging the dump? Why is there trash if this is the case. Is this trash that was cleaned out by bulldozers? Maybe someone here has a knowledge of the procedures done in landfills.

Hi Clayton,
Just a guess--probably the next line of cover dirt that never got spread over the fresh trash area. To be certain why not inquire of some former employee of that dump/at whoever ran it--The local town or county.

Maybe, but why would there be trash in it?

Hi there CJM,

I doubt fresh dirt was dug somewhere else and trucked in. It probably came from a spot not too far away on site. There is very little pristine earth on an established landfill. --Len
