I think I found my first clay marble. I have never actually seen one up close so I am not sure.
How do I recognize a clay marble?
It is light weight. Not much different than a regular marble.
Any way to positively ID this as a clay?
The first picture I took a glass marble and put it next to the clay just for referance.

The other picture of the string of marbles I put on to see if anyone can ID or even date these. Most came from a 20s pit.
I have tried marble sites but they are a bit confusing to me.

Thanks

I collected marbles for about a year so I know a little. Those in the link are called slag marbles and are not clay. The marble you found is clay. Clay marbles come in quite a few colors. They are not very expensive but some can be if they have colored rings on them and I think those are called china marbles. Hope this helps a little.

Just inspect them you know what chips in the marble look like, so ignore them and look for a messed up spot on the marble that has been polished and looks like it has been there since the marble was made. Machine made marbles do not have this. Congrats on your first Clay!
