Super Find! I LOVE digging on those construction sites when the timing is right.

I also love digging things with old phone numbers on it. It's wild to think of a time when they had three digits... or even Two, like this old jug I pulled out of a privy a while back.

Thanks all. Heading out to the site, very doubtful anything is exposed.
Stopped by Friday, the whole area was filled in and leveled, except for one huge pit that had some evidence of
ash and bone along the edges. Dug through one ash-pit, only thing found was a burned 1859 Indian Cent.

Here's an old sign I dug a while back. Shows Two addresses and Two 3 digit phone numbers. This one came out of a Teens/20's brickliner.

Thanks for all the replies!
Went back to the site, there was one brick lined cistern(?) at the bottom of the huge trench that the workers carved out. At least 12, 15 feet deep from the surface.
Is this an usual occurrence for Western diggings?
Thinking that it may be from a basement level house or apartment, it was about the diameter of a trash can lid.
Sadly, we couldn't dig down to the bottom, was getting too dark, but we think we dug most of it.
Buddy dug one cure, I got doll parts, and a few slicks.
Still, my first cistern dig, felt my first pangs of claustrophobia.

Sounds like it was a privy. Cisterns are usually lined with some type of mortar to keep the water in. They are also fairly large in diameter compared to what you described.

You're correct, I'm still new to the terminology, plus I wrote the last post before my coffee was ingested this morning.
Used to call Hutches blob tops, drove everyone nuts!
