After going to Brimfield and happy with the small purchases I got, I received a call from a dealer I have bought from in the past. He ended up finding one of my holy grail bottles. Best part is I didn't know the embossed variant existed and I like it better than the pyro. SR Howland Dairy, Acoaxet, Mass. So happy with this, got a good deal on it too. nothing like getting a bottle that you've wanted but didn't think you would ever have a chance at. I was able to get not one but two of my dream bottles in a short period of time. it's a great feeling

Perhaps someone can answer me this: From what I've gathered, the large letter on the bottom of milk bottles is the first letter of the last name of the dairy owner--am I right? K for Kinney, like our Church's former pastor's family. T for Thompson, M for...? But it is the last name, or is it a maker's mark from some mostly forgotten glass company? I've only found one milk bottle, which is my 'Holy Grail' as it turned out to be scarce and in great condition. But I've seen several, and it's what leads me to think my hypothesis is true. So, anyone have an answer?

From what I gather you are correct about the Letter on the bottom being the same as the first Letter of the Last Name. For instance the manufacturers mark on my bottle posted here are in the Mass Seal and near the base of the bottle. Some store bottles have a big "5" with a cent mark on the bottom for 5 cents, the cost of the deposit on the bottle I believe. Hope this helps.

I agree with JDMoxie. Family dairy bottles that I have from the 1930s have the first letter of our last name on the bottom.

On the neck of the bottle, there is one to two circles. One was used to say sealed, the other is...? Mine has the front circle without anything embossed or glazed onto it. So, what's the point of it being there then? Also, I'm right in dating it to '20s or '30s from a five-digit phone number? (Michigan number, I do not know if other places used them for longer or shorter periods.)
